Buhari, Lawan, Gbajabiamila, governors congratulate Bello, Lyon on polls victory

Augustine Ehikioya, Sanni Onogu, VictorPresident Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, governors and other eminent Nigerians yesterday congratulated Bayelsa State Governor-elect David Lyon and Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, on his re-election.The two All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains were elected in last Saturdays elections in both states.A statement yesterday in Abuja by the Presidents Special Adviser (SA) on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, said President Buhari also hailed the partys supporters and other Nigerians for exercising their civic rights peacefully, notwithstanding the pockets of unrest in some locations.Condemning the loss of lives in Bayelsa, particularly prior to the election, the President commiserated with the families of the victims.He said: Violence during elections vitiates our commitment to demonstrate to the world and upcoming generation that we are a people capable of electing leaders in a peaceful and orderly manner.The President noted that I ndependent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and security agencies did their best within the ambit of the law to ensure free, fair and credible elections.He said it was unfortunate that pockets of unrest, mostly sponsored by desperate politicians, were recorded during the poll.The President said he looked forward to working with the incoming administration to improve the lives of Bayelsa State residents while ensuring the security of lives and property of all citizens.President Buhari urged Governor-elect Lyon to carry other divergent interests along in the next phase of governance.He implored those not satisfied with the outcome of the poll to seek redress through the constitutionally established channels.Senate President Ahmad Lawan congratulated APC and its governorship candidates on their election victory in Kogi and Bayelsa states.In a statement by his Special Adviser (Media), Ola Awoniyi, the Senate President rejoiced with Bello on his re-election and Lyon for making history as the first governor Bayelsa State has elected on a platform different from the outgoing ruling party in the state.He hailed President Buhari for ensuring a level-playing field that enabled the people to assert their sovereignty and choose their leaders.The impressive turnout of voters in the two states is a ringing endorsement of democracy by Nigerians as their preferred system, notwithstanding its current challenges, Lawan said.House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila also congratulated Bello and Lyon for emerging victorious at the polls.Read Also:APC governors welcome Lyon, pledge further cooperation with BelloIn a congratulatory message by his Special Adviser (SA) on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, the Speaker said the victories recorded by the APC candidates in the two states was an indication of the wide acceptance the party enjoys in the two states.Gbajabiamila said Bayelsa State, in particular, has now joined the Next Level train, having seen the massive change driven by the APC-led administration at the Federal level.It is gladdening to know that our party, the APC, came out victorious in the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states. This is a testimony that Nigerians across the length and breadth of the country are beginning to realise what the APC means for the country.This victory is not for the party or its members alone, but for the entirety of Nigerians.May I call on the two governors-elect to be magnanimous in victory. The APC stands for the good of Nigerians, and I know the two governors-elect are part of the journey to make Nigeria better, he said.House of Representative Deputy Speaker Ahmed Idris Wase also congratulated Lyon and Bello.In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Muhammad Puma, Wase implored the governors-elect to work closely with all persons and interest groups to move their states to the Next Level.Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola congratulated Lyon on his victory at the poll at the weekend.Oyetola, who is a member of the Bayelsa State APC Governorship Campaign Committee, noted that the victory indicated Nigerians preference for the ruling party, owing largely to its pro-people policies and programmes at state and Federal levels.In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, the governor described the victory as sweet.On behalf of the people and Government of the State of Osun, I congratulate our President, Muhammadu Buhari, our National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, our National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leadership of the APC and the APC Governorship Campaign Committee under the chairmanship of the Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru for this sweet and well-deserved victory.I congratulate the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a peaceful election in the state, Oyetola said.Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun congratulated Lyon on his election victory, ending 20-year reign of PDP in the state.He described the re-election of Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello as well deserved.In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abiodun said: I am confident that Mr Lyon will uphold the principles of governance of our great party, the APC.It is my prayer that the Almighty would be his ultimate guide as he embarks on the socio-economic development and overall transformation of Bayelsa.My Kogi State counterpart, Mr Yahya Bello, who got re-elected by the popular vote of the people into office in Saturdays governorship election, I believe, will be reciprocated by more projects and dedication to the peoples welfare.Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also congratulated Bello and Lyon.He described the defeat of the PDP in Bayelsa State as an affirmation of the acceptance of the APC across the country.The victory of our partys candidates in Bayelsa and Kogi is a testimony to the acceptance of the President Muhammadu Buhari administrations reforms and APCs progressive actions, Sanwo-Olu said.Congratulating Governor Bello on his re-election for a second term in office, the Lagos governor admired the resilience of his Kogi State counterpart, saying the victory is an opportunity to enhance APCs performance in the state.Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu congratulated Bello on his re-election for another four-year term in office. He also congratulated Lyon for his victory in the Saturday governorship election in Bayelsa State.Expressing delight over the outcome of the exercise, the governor also congratulated the APC for the wonderful outing at the two elections.In a statement by his media aide, Ojo Oyewamide, he said: The outcome of the elections in the two states have once again deepened the APC in the hearts of the people. It is particularly heart-warming that my good friend and brother, Alhaji Bello, is returning as governor of Kogi State. I congratulate him and wish him all the best as he continues to lead the good people of Kogi State.For Chief David Lyon, the governor-elect of Bayelsa State, his emergence is a major turning point. Although Edo State had blazed the trail for long, the journey to plant the seeds of our great party in the Niger Delta has not been easy, understandably.But the Bayelsa feat is a great leap. All those who toiled to bring to fruition this comforting berth deserve commendation. This, undoubtedly, is the needed elixir for our great party to take firm roots in the Niger Delta.Much as I savour this enthralling moment, the real victory belongs to those who sacrificed their time and energy for the successful conduct of the two elections.Most profoundly, therefore, I specially salute and commend the quality leadership individually provided by my good friends and brothers, Governors Nasir El-Rufai and Abubakar Badaru of Kaduna and Jigawa states respectively.As Chairmen of the APC National Campaign Councils for the two elections, they displayed their usual dexterity on all fronts with candour and thoroughness. All members of both councils deserve no less commendationsFrom INEC to the security agencies and even participants, theirs have also contributed in no small measure to the successful outcome of the elections.Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State in the 2019 general election, Senator Buruji Kashamu, congratulated President Buhari and the APC for winning the November 16 governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states.
