Go for early goals 'ex-Falconets coach charges Super Falcons

Published by Tribune on Wed, 19 Oct 2011

FORMER Assistant Coach of the National U-19 team, the Falconets, Rolandson Odey, has charged the Super Falcons to go for an early goal as they face the Lionesses of Cameroun this weekend, in their decisive second leg London 2012 Olympics qualifier.Odey, speaking in Lagos pointed out that the team needs divine intervention to pick the Olympics ticket following a slim margin victory recorded in the first leg."I know our players are determined but we have to score first in Cameroun if we want to pick the ticket. Scoring first would upset the Camerounians and put them under intense pressure. We must not concede a goal this time and If we allow the Camerounians to score first, there is going to be problem but we just have to score in Cameroun," Odey maintained.Meanwhile, former Falcons star, Mercy Akide-Udoh, has advised coach Uche Eucharia, to parade Perpetua Nkwocha, Rita Chikwelu and Helen Ukaonu who arrived late to camp against the reigning All Africa Games champions.Mercy told a Lagos-based radio station that the experience of the threeforeign-based players who arrived in the camp on Monday would strengthen the Falcons."We need the experience of these players. Experience matters a lot and we can't leave them out of this game. These are experienced players. We cannot say that because the home-based players have been in camp all along preparing hard. We have to inject these foreign-based professionals into the team to combine with those home-based players who distinguished themselves. That would help us a lot in Cameroun," said the former World Cup star.Nigeria it will be recalled managed a 2-1 win in the first leg tie in Abuja as the Lionesses need a 1-0 victory to turn the tables against the Super Falcons when they clash on October 22 in Yoaunde.
