Lagos ACN chieftain, 250 others defect to PDP

A chieftain of the Action Congress ofNigeria (ACN) in Lagos State, Dr Gabriel Adetokunbo Pearse, on Tuesday, led over 250 members of the party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), faulting the leadership style of the former governor, Senator Bola Tinubu.Speaking at the kick-off of the PDP rally, ahead of the conduct of the local government election scheduled to hold on Saturday, the former ACN aspirant for House of Representatives accused Tinubu of running the party like his personal estate.He said the leaders of ACN treated the members with utmost disrespect, adding that unlike in the PDP, there was no internal democracy.'There is no election but selection of candidates. You and I cannot vote out a bad official and we cannot vote for a good candidate of our choice. Abuse of democracy is an abuse of civil rights,' he said.He said when they joined the ACN at its formation in 2007, they were promised jobs, appointments, subsidised rent, market stalls, government housing, lamenting that till now, they had not enjoyed any dividend of democracy.Meanwhile, the PDP, on Tuesday, described as undemocratic, the threat by Governor Babatunde Fashola not to develop any local government area won by the PDP in the forthcoming election.Speaking at the presentation of the party candidates for the local government election scheduled to hold on Saturday, the state chairman of the PDP, Chief Setonji Koshoedo, said it was wrong for Fashola to have made such a statement.
