AG charges communities on unity, peace

The Accountant General of the Federation, Prince Jonah Otunla, has charged the people of Irawo Ile and Irawo Owode in Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State, to unite and work for the development of the area, Oke-Ogun area and the state in general.The former Accountant General of Oyo State, while speaking recently at a recognition and reception held in his honour at Irawo Owode, noted that it was only in peaceful atmosphere that development could thrive.Otunla whose house was burnt during the communal crisis in 2002 in the town, urged them to bury their shealths and unite for the common goal of the community.According to him, this is the time for the people of the two communities to come together and unite for peace to reign supreme in the area.He explained that the people of the area should be able to contribute wharever they have for the development of the area, saying that everybody has one thing or the other to contribute to make the area better.He disclosed that works was still on for the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in the area.He said that the 2011 budget did not make provision for the school, but explained that efforts were still on to ensure that the dream of having a higher education in Oke Ogun area of the state was realised.While noting that his success in his chosen career might not have been possible if not for his parents, who he regretted were not alive, he called on youths to always obey and respect their parents.Earlier, a community leader and retired Permanent Secretary in the state Civil Service, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Adeniran, said the community was proud of him and viewed the appointment as a result of his successful tenure as former Accountant General of Oyo State.While noting that he had contributed immensely to the development of the community, he called on him to come and rebuild his house that was burnt during the crisis, and urged him to provide employment to many of the youth who were unemployed.He called on him to ensure that the Federal Polytechnic was sited at Irawo- Owode as this would bring tremendous development to the area.
