A SOUTH ARICA-BASED firm at the weekend launched a new digital television service in Ibadan with a call on the Federal Government to speed up process of its power transformational agenda so as to enable its efforts in other areas of the nation's economy yield the desired results.The new digital service named, 'Go tv', according to the General Manager of the company,Mayo Okunola represents one of the most advanced digital terrestrial television (DDT) broadcast system and infrastructure established in Africa and the rest of the world to date and leapfrogs the outdated T1 systems, which were utilised by first movers in the Digital Migration.Okunola at a media briefing to herald the launch of the service in the state capital explained that with stable power supply, Nigerians would be able to enjoy the dividends of the enabling environment being created for innovations and investments by the government through its liberalised policies, one of which he said was the coming on board of 'GO tv'.He described the choice of Ibadan for the launch as unique being the first place in the continent of Africa, where the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo launched Nigeria's first analogue television exactly 52 years ago.He explained that the Go tv service was a low cost digital television 'offering the greatest selection of local channels, made in Africa for Africa as well as the best international channels.'The DVB-T2 technology standard, he explained, would bring dramatic improvement on the dividend of terrestrial frequencies available to Nigeria.'GO tv brand was specially created to make available an affordable digital television product for all, it offers great family entertainment at affordable prices. Nigerians are now set to benefit from easy access to an increased number of channels with enhanced picture and sound quality synonymous with digital television. It allows for up to 20 channels per frequency as different from DVB-T1 technology which only allows for 12 channels per frequency.
