Spectranet begins WiMAX broadband services in 2.5 GHZ

DETERMINED to offer cutting edge wireless broadband services at affordable price to Nigerians, Spectranet Ltd recently rolled out commercial service at the weekend.According to the company, it launched its latest fourth generation wireless broadband services (Spectranet 4G) becauseof the need to ensure a reliable and cost effective wireless broadband service for small and medium businesses (SMBs), corporate and individuals with wide spread presence and easy deployment.Speaking during the launch, one of the directors of the company and Executive Director NITEL and Multi-Links, Mr. Ezekiel Fatoye explained that reliable Internet access was no more a luxury but a necessity: 'We see tremendous potential in delivering high quality reliable broadband services increasingly as consumers in Nigeria increasingly demandhigh quality Internet connectivity but at an affordable price.Besides the advantage of cost, convenience and reliability, Spectranet broadband services come with easy deployment, wide choice of tariff and plans, which will be of great value to customers.'He noted that Spectranet had plans to provide broadband Internet access to hospitals and schools as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), adding that Nigeria could well be a wireless country if only the government was willing and ready todeploy every available resources to IT and broadband services.His Royal Majesty, Rilwan Akiolu, Oba of Lagos who is the chairman of Spectranet informed the media that all the members of board were committed to grow the company in geometric progression. While assuring that the company would deliver on its promise to sustain and not compromise quality service, he also added thatone of the reasons for going into Spectranet was basically to ensure that access to Internet became more simplified and easier.During the technical demonstration of the products, Mr. Rajiv Rao, chief operating officer for the company, said that spectranet4G was delivered on the most advanced 16 E Wimax technology, which facilitated fast, reliable Internet access services.Rao explained that the service would be available only in Lagos at the initial roll out and would be expanded to major cities in the country soon.He said: 'Compared to some other technologies which are fixed access, the Spectranet wireless broadband service will provide a certain level of portability. This is being delivered on the retail friendly frequency better signal penetration and therefore more services indoor.
