An evening of praise blast at Ibara prison

THIS year's Independence Day forever would remain indelible in the minds of inmates of Nigeria Prisons, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, as they had the very rare opportunity of hosting Testify Crew who stormed the prison with people from all walks of life to sing praises to God. Tagged Testify Praise Blast, it was an opportunity for the inmates to wine and dine in the gospel of Christ.The group last year also marked the country's Golden Jubilee celebration in the prisons. However, in order to add more excitement to it by inviting the celebrated Yoruba gospel artiste, Evangelist Tope Alabi, whose performance threw the inmates in wild celebration of God was hosted this year.One of the inmates,Dada Akintunji who has been on trial for the past two years for attempt to rob, wished the event could hold on a monthly basis. 'It's educative, correctional and re-orienting. It makes us also feel that we are not forgotten. Despite the mistake we made; they still believe in us. With this type of programme many of us will give our lives to God if we leave here,' he said.Segun Ajibade, who has stayed 11 years and convicted of robbery, said he has given his life to Christ as a result of Christian programmes like that and preaching by some men of God who visit them.Bamidele Emmanuel Olariwaju, the Deputy Controller of Nigeria Prisons Service, Ibara Abeokuta, Ogun State, said the musical concert was not only to mark the country's 51 Independent anniversary, but serve as part of the correctional activities going on in the service.
