Vision 20:2020: 12 donors'll provide assistance to Nigeria 'NPC

TWELVE development partnerswould provide assistance to Nigeria, to enable the country to achieve the Vision 20:2020 and the National Transformation Agenda, a senior government official has said.Mr Sanjo Faniran, Chief Planning Officer, Department of International Cooperation, National Planning Commission (NPC), disclosed this on Wednesday, in Dutse, Jigawa State, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) .He listed the agencies as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), European Union (EU), World Bank, Department of International Development (DFID), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Japanese International Cooperation Agency.Others, according to Faniran, were Korea International Cooperation Agency, the Government of China, Canadian International Development Agency, Australian Government, Malaysia Government and Government of India.'The multilateral and bilateral agencies will provide aid-in-grant, interest free loan and technical assistance in most of the priority sectors of Nigeria government as encapsulated in the Nigeria's Vision 20:2020 and National Transformation Agenda (2012-2015),' he said.Faniran said the development assistance was provided to expend on energy, environment, health, education, women empowerment, poverty alleviation and agriculture sectors.He said government's ministries and agencies that applied for donor assistance must do so through the NPC.'NPC is the agency of government saddled with the responsibility of coordinating official development assistance, including technical economic cooperation for both multilateral and bilateral for government of Federal Republic of Nigeria,' he said.Faniran said government's agencies applying for donor assistance must have the plan to support good governance, as well as plan and implementation reference.'Application must be in line with Nigerian government's priority sectors, as well as the agreement signed with the donors that must be consistent with the five principles of Paris Declaration and Accra Agenda for Action,' he said.
