Fund may stall Nigeria's participation in World Team Cup

THE National Sports Commission's (NSC) delay to release fund may deny the Nigerian women team the opportunity of participating in next month's International Table Tennis Federation's (ITTF) World Team Cup holding in Germany.The Guardian leant that the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) has written to NSC on the competition before the All Africa Games in Mozambique, but there has not been concrete response from the commission. Nigeria's presence at the tourney will seal the country's female team's qualification for the 2012 London Olympic Games.Its absence, however, will pave way for Egypt, which male team has already been confirmed as the continent's flagbearer while Nigeria will present the female team. The Guardian leant that the non-release of fund might have prevented the team from commencing camping for the championship.Meanwhile, Germany-based Funke Oshonaike told The Guardian that she was still expecting the team to join her for proper training. The women team saved Nigeria the blushes in Maputo after the Oshonaike-inspired team won three events out of the seven in the table tennis event.
