Imo acquires land for palm plantation

POISED to beef up its internally generated revenue profile, the Imo State Government is to acquire 60,000 hectares of land for planting palm trees for oil extraction, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Rochas Okorocha on Agriculture and Water Resources, Mr. Daniel Kanu, has disclosed.Briefing journalists in Owerri on Tuesday, Kanu disclosed that the state government would host officials from Malaysia on the projects, adding that the state was targeting nine million palm seedlings and the planting of 150 trees per hectare on yearly basis, beginning from this year.Nurseries, he said, would be expanded in various locations in the state.
