Oyo lawmaker plans football academy

Published by Tribune on Fri, 21 Oct 2011

A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Adesina Adeyemo, has said he will set up a football academy in the state as part of his efforts in sports and youth development.Honourable Adeyemo, who said the academy would be located in Ibarapa area of the state, disclosed this on Wednesday, while presenting a set of football kits to Lanlate Babes and Ojoko United Football Clubs from his Ibarapa East constituency. The lawmaker, who is the deputy chief whip of the House, donated the kits, accompanied by his colleague in the House and deputy speaker, Honourable David Olaniyan, at the Assembly complex. He said the academy would be well-equipped and manned by seasoned football tacticians and its products sought after by football scouts from all over the world, adding that the education of the young talents that would be assembled in the facility would not be interrupted.'Today in sports, especially in football, players are making millions and ours in this state should not be an exception. The Mikel Obis, the Lionel Messi of this world all came from the remotest parts of their countries. There are many undiscovered talents in Ibarapa areas, many Messis and Obis and even Kanu Nwankwos,' Adeyemo said.He promised to do more for the clubs and others yet to benefit as well as sponsor them to participate in the state league.Honourable Adeyemo urged them to put the materials to good use and stay away from social vices, while calling for the cooperation and unity among them. The deputy speaker, while congratulating the donor for his laudable stride in football development in the state, said football was no more a hobby but a money-spinning profession worth a great dedication and commitment for success. He added that the lawmakers in the state would not allow the politicisation of player selection for the state teams, stressing that competitions must be truly competitive to bring out the best in the participants.Honourable Olaniyan announced that he would also encourage the two clubs with a set of training blips.
