110,000 in Niger IDP camps-Chairman

By Justina Asishana, MinnaOver 110,000 people are living at the temporary Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Kuta, the headquarters of Shiroro local government area.Also, two pregnant women were delivered of babies at the IDP camp.The recent banditry in the Shiroro and Munya local government areas has forced villagers to flee their homes and relocate to the temporary camps to escape further attacks.The IDPs are currently in the Central primary School in Kuta in Shiroro local government area.The Chairman of Shiroro local government area of Niger state, Mallam Suleiman Chukuba, disclosed the number of internally displaced people to the Director-General of the Niger state Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Ibrahim Inga when he visited the camp to offer relief materials.Chukuba lamented the plight and the living condition of the displaced people the majority of whom are women and children.He explained they were forced out of their villages as a result of the sustained attacks by armed bandits in the area.READ ALSO:Cholera spreads through IDPs camps in NigeriaUNThe Chairman, who appreciated the gesture of NSEMA, said the Council is overwhelmed by the demand for basic needs, adding the relief materials by NSEMA came at the right time. The condition of the people could better imagine than experienced. Food and water are the immediate challenges facing the people at the moment, he said.Chukuba further said the two pregnant women who were delivered baby boys at the IDP Camp have been moved to the primary health care centre in the area.He gave the names of the women as Jemima Buhari and Zarau Bashiru, both from Mazuku, one of the affected communities in Shiroro local government area.The Director-General, of State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, accompanied by some officials of the agency was in the camp to donate some relief materials to the victims of the bandits attacks to cushion the effects of their hardships.
