Attorneys-Gen raise panel as Speakers give support

From Bisi Oladele and Yinka Adeniran, Ibadan A three-man committee has been raised by the Southwest states Attorneys-General to submit a report on the legal frame work for Operation Amotekun within two weeks.The meeting of the Attorneys-General in Ibadan on Thursday which was hosted by Oyo State AG, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, took the decision.Speakers of the House of Assembly in the region also agreed to give a bill on the security outfit expedited consideration as soon as forwarded by the Executive.It was learnt that the speakers got a briefing on Operation Amotekun and thereafter deliberated extensively on it. They pledged their full support for Amotekun.Read Also:mtkn: Symbolism and misrepresentationsThe assurance came from the Chairman, Southwest Conference of Speakers of States Legislature, Ondo State Speaker Oleyelogun Bamidele. He spoke in Ibadan, during a summit of Speakers in the region.The summits theme is The Imperative of Western Nigeria Security Network (Operation Amotekun): Legislative support for the Initiative.Oleyelogun said: Amotekun has come to stay. He added that the Speakers supported the initiative because it was not only aimed at complementing the activities of regular security agencies and building confidence of residents within the zone, but it abinitio received the blessing of the federal government; Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; and royal fathers hence should be allowed to fly.Lagos Speaker Mudasiru Obasa said: The legal backing will go through the normal procedure of legislations. Well have a bill, it is processed through first reading, second reading, public hearing, third reading, passage, governors assent and it becomes law.We all agree as speakers that Amotekun has come to stay. Amotekun is in existence and we wish Amotekun long life.Oyo Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin also pledged unwavering support of the state legislature for Amotekun, noting that the outfit would strengthen the resolve of governors to ensure security in the region.
