Baraje seeks aviation workers' support for new management

THE Chairman, Governing Board of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, has urged stakeholders to see the recent appointments in the aviation industry as an enthronement of professionalism, adding that only experienced hands were appointed to replace those sacked.According to him, the removal of some of aviation chiefs was not done in bad faith, assuring that the sector will be better for it.Baraje, who spoke at the Headquarters of NAMA in Lagos while addressing various aviation union leaders said, 'what the Federal Government is trying to do now is to look inward by appointing professionals and dedicatedmanagement staff with experience in the helm of affairs.''He said such criteria led to the appointment of Engr Nnamdi Udoh as NAMA managing director, expressing hopes that his appointment will engender stability and promotion of industrial harmony in a sensitive agency like NAMA.While addressing Union leaders of the Air Traffic Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and National Association of Air Transport Workers (NUATE) in Lagos, he enjoined the leaders to always work in harmony and co-operate with the new management in order to move the agency forward in the provision of high quality air traffic services in the country, just as he charged them to shelve confrontational attitudes in trade union matters.Udoh, who also spoke at the forum stressed the need for peaceful co-existence between the various unions and the management of the agency based on mutualunderstanding and pursuit of common ideals, saying that the agency could only operate effectively in a peaceful environment devoid of internal bickering.'We definitely need to work very hard to restore the agency to the era of peace and harmony. I wish to reassure everyone that the management under my watch is committed to the peace process and I want to enjoin the Unions to support us in our quest to make NAMA a world class Air Navigation Service Provider,'' the managing director remarked.Comrade Adewale Adekoya and Rita Nna responding on behalf of the various unions represented at the interactive forum assured the board chairman and the management of the support of the workers, pledging to ensure the success of the new managing director and his team.
