MoneyGram records 15 per cent growth in business transactions

Published by Guardian on Sat, 22 Oct 2011

MONEYGRAM has disclosed that it recorded a 15 per cent leap in the volume of its transactions in Nigeria. The company's regional director for Anglophone West Africa, Mrs. Feyikemi Adebayo, who made the disclosure in Lagos recently, said that the growth was recorded during the company's 'Gear Up for School' promo.Compared to the same period last year, Adebayo stated that the company was happy with the achievements and thereby looked forward to celebrating with its numerous customers and agent banks in the country. Her words, 'we are happy in MoneyGram about our achievements so far and look forward to celebrating with our agent partners and customers many more successes in the coming years.'Adebayo explained that the promo, which ran from August 22, 2011 to September 30, 2011, was meant to communicate MoneyGram's commitment to education sector in the country as well as reward customers in the West African region.According to her, MoneyGram's commitment to education was deeply rooted in the famous quote by former South Africa's President Nelson Mandela that states, 'education is the most powerful weapon which one can use to change the world.'This, he stated, necessitated the commitment of MoneyGram to the sector in the Anglophone West Africa.Buttressing this, she revealed that this year's promo took place simultaneously in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Gambia with communication support coming from the firm's key corridors in the United States of America and the United Kingdom. She said: 'This morning, we also have simultaneous draws taking place in Ghana and Liberia.'Representing the interest of customers at the draw, the Head of the Lagos Office of Consumers Protection Council, Obidike Ngozika, who was also present, said that the promo was duly registered with the organisation, an indication that it has the legal backing.Ngozika expressed satisfaction with the electronic draw used in picking the lucky winners pointing out that it was transparent and satisfactory to the CPC.A total of 800 customers emerged successful and won to themselves bag packs containing T-shirts, notebooks, pens, and other back-to-school items. Apart from this, 20 customers smiled home with laptops and school bags. Before the promo ended, MoneyGram donated books to a total of 12 primary schools in different parts of the country. Four of them are in Ibadan, five from Benin and the remaining three from Lagos.
