Independence Corporate Day Run fosters unity, says Bank-Anthony

Published by Guardian on Sat, 22 Oct 2011

EXECUTIVE Secretary of the Lagos State Sports Endowment Fund (LSSEF), Babatunde Bank-Anthony, has said that this year's Nigeria Independence Day Run fixed for November 7 would foster unity among individuals and participating companies.According to Bank-Anthony, the run, which is in its second edition, will have over 3,000 participants drawn mainly from the corporate organisations, political class and government circle. He said the event was postponed from October 2 to November 7 to give Lagosians and people from other states, who might wish to be part of it, the opportunity to do so.While describing the maiden edition of the event as a big success, the LSSEF secretary said the regular exercise is good for the wellbeing of the body. According to him, physical exercise enhances blood circulation, strengthens the heart, enhances mental alertness, improves productivity and elongates life span.Apart from the health benefits of the marathon, Bank-Anthony explained that the programme also fosters good relationship among members of staff and automatically helps in the attainment of company's goal. He spoke further: 'Events like the Independence Day Run foster good relationship among members of staff and help in the attainment of company's goal and encourage team work.'We have also discovered that mental health, clinical depression and other stress-related problems prevail among workers as a result of poor health attitude, inadequate exercise and poor attitude to sporting and recreational activities.'He also commended all those who have been behind the programme since it debuted last year such as Skye Bank, Stallion Motors, Access Bank, Oceanic Bank and Coca Cola as partners in progress with the organisers.
