Alison-Madueke Lauds NNPC On Safety

BRIEFSMINISTER of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has hailed the management and staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on the successful execution of a comprehensive health, safety and environment (HSE) exercise, which involved the total evacuation of the entire four blocks of the massive NNPC Towers in Abuja.The safety drill is in line with the global oil and gas industry policy on HSE, which entails periodic and coordinated awareness exercise.Speaking to journalists after the drill, Alison-Madueke noted that the exercise, which for the first time covered the entire NNPC Complex, would go a long way in implanting safety consciousness in the minds of workers.In his remarks, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Engineer Austin Oniwon, said safety of the work place is of utmost priority to the management of the corporation.Utomi Holds Summit On EntrepreneurshipBy Bertram NwannekanmaPROFESSOR of Political Economy and management expert, Prof Pat Utomi has described entrepreneurship as a very important process in the nation's transformation agenda.Utomi, who through his organization, Megastrat Consulting is holding an entrepreneurship summit on November 1 and 2 in Lagos to showcase this, expressed optimism that Nigeria can achieve economic growth if it can prevent the orgy of violence from degenerating into anarchy, as well as prepare the private sector right .Speaking at an interactive session to herald the summit in Lagos, the renowned economist stressed that the country is at a remarkable position for economic growth because entrepreneurial skill can address the nation's challenge ofwealth creation and unemployment.'Fuel Subsidy Removal Must Benefit Masses'By Ebere AmehCHAIRMAN of the Lagos chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Apostle Alex Bamgbola has stated that there is nothing wrong in the removal of subsidy on petroleum products, but was quick to add that if the subsidy removal does not benefit the generality of the masses, it becomes an abomination unto God.Comparing Nigeria with Venezuela, Bamgbola noted: 'It's insane and I don't have any apology for my language. Nigeria started way before Venezuela and now Venezuela, a small nation, has up to 30 refineries. The four we say we have not worked efficiently. Why' Just because of corruption.'He made the declaration while fielding questions from journalists on pressing national issues during the press conference preceding the Annual Symposium on Christian unity with the constant theme, 'That they may be one.'The symposium, which is organised by the International Foundation For Christian Unity (IFCU) in conjunction with the PFN is scheduled to take place at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos on October 27, 2011 with the topic, 'Exploring A New Way To Christian Unity.'.Confusion Over Confab In Ebonyi CommunityFrom Leo Sobechi, AbakalikiTENSION has continued to mount over moves by two millionaires to convoke a peace and reconciliation meeting of stakeholders of various political persuasions in Edda community of Afikpo council of Ebonyi State, with the Chairman of the council, Nkama Nkama Ude, summoning all elected representatives in the area under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to a crucial meeting.Two wealthy members of the community, had sent out invitations to all stakeholders for a meeting at Ekoli to cool frayed nerves caused by the last general election and chart a way forward for the community.The meeting, which was scheduled to hold on October 29, 2011 was also intended to unite the community.But sources told The Guardian that the hurried manner in which the invitation notes were sent out to select stakeholders raised suspicion among some notable politicians in the area, including a legislator; who was excluded from the planned meeting, that the confab could be a clever maneuver to hijack leadership in the community.Firm Sponsors Nigerians To KoreaBy Olamide OlayiwolaLG Electronics has sponsored some top Nigerian building contractors to participate in a training forum and also visit to its factory in South Korea.The objective of the visit was to further strengthen the present trust and confidence of the main contractors in the quality of LG's airconditioners.The participants were exposed to LG's production line, intake and storage area of materials, work in progress and various world class quality checks in different stages of airconditioning production line.The trip was led by Mr. Peter Ko, General Manager, Air-conditioning, LG Electronics (West Africa Operations) and Mr. Niyi Kolawole, Managing Director/CEO, Tecnicool Nigeria Ltd, LG Electronics' strategic partner for commercial air-conditioners in Nigeria.
