AS Nigeria celebrated her 51st anniversary as a nation on October 1, 2011, Shape2Lead a body of professionals committed to the discovery and development of leadership potentials in Nigerian youths projected that the leadership of today's youngsters promises the evolution of the Nigeria of our dreams.Abiodun Oshinibosi, Coordinator of Shape2Lead at an independence anniversary event in Lagos decried the unfortunate situation of Nigerian youths. 'It is disappointing that young people have been failed by the older generation but for a handful of role models. The older generation who have been placed in exalted leadership positions, have been beclouded by selfishness through flagrant expropriation. The youths have watched Nigeria degenerate over time. They have been deprived of mentorship; those they look up to are either in jail or on their way there. Often times, they are compelled to look beyond our shores for role model. It may seem unpatriotic, but that seem to be the solution they can proffer'. Despite this unfortunate scenario, Oshinibosi is excited that there is light at the end of the tunnel for Nigerian youths. 'We are no longer dependent on government for inspiration, neither are we relying on moneybags with shady history. Those of us privileged to have seen the big picture as evangelists of the new Nigeria are buoyed to refocus the sight of other youths whose vision are blurred and distorted by vainglory, immorality and corruption.' He emphasised that the aspiration of Shape2Lead is to mentor the youths to be better leaders. 'The clich, 'youths are leaders of tomorrow', should be dropped. We have realized that tomorrow is no longer tomorrow, but today. We already have youths in their 20's and 30's taking up key positions and they have done marvellously well. Most of them have been instrumental to the monumental successes of notable firms, conglomerates and even government establishments. At Shape2Lead, we are proactive to be investing in the potentials of these youngsters now, so that Nigeria will be a major beneficiary.' Nigeria is a depository of youths with capacity to be world class leaders if well tuned. 'We are set to go through Nigerian institutions and challenge the sleeping giants in them. We will help them rediscover themselves and be charged to take on the reins of leadership that is set to drop on their laps. We will give them reason to believe in Nigeria despite all the shenanigans of some politicians and government officials. Shape2Lead will make them see that they are the leaders that Nigeria needs to realize its full potentials' Oshinibosi revealed that Shape2lead will soon be a permanent feature in all Nigerian secondary schools, polytechnics and universities. 'A mind is a terrible thing to waste' goes the popular saying. We believe the minds of these younger ones are arable with capacity to germinate positive fruits. Ours is to weed out the negative values deposited in them and replace with the right positive seeds for the benefit of all. The time to start is now. We will do all within our means to ensure that the Nigerian youths are not garbed in the infamous toga of 'the wasted generation'. I am positive that thuggery, prostitution (under whatever guise), cheating and other vices will soon be a thing of the past among our youths. They will see the light and ignore darkness.
