IT is beginning to look like most of us are comfortable with a straight forward view of the brutal if beastial exit of the erstwhile Leader of Libya, Col. Moammar Gadhafi. Most of us are conviniently sandwiched in such popular positions as 'Oh, serves him right! How can a man stay in power for so long and want to continue' ' or 'Hurray, Libya is free. Good bye, the Gadhafi despot!'How I wish things of such complex political nature are that simple to guage. I would have bought the emotion if mental ejaculation that Libya is freed. Is it'But before the projection, let's ponder the death and immediate events preceeding the killing. From there to the Gadhafi gambles that turned awry and exploded on his face. Then his deluding heroism as a young zenophobic soldier that led a redemption of Libya which made him think he had achieved a deified status to the level imagining he can do anything in the land and get away with it.Gaghafi was killed in cold blood ' shot on the head and on the chest at close range by some soldiers with whom he communicated before the shooting. He was lumped in car boot, dragged on the floor, pulled through his long hair. The death appeared purposely phased to ensure it was brutal and pain-marked to satisfy the blood-tasty fantasies of his killers. Nothing justifies such sadistic torture and murder even in the most bitter war situation. And the Libya liberation fighters should not have let their emotions ferry them away to such oddious ends of damning bile which rubs their mission, deemed lofty in many quarters with the putrid murk of vendetta. And given that the spectacles of Gadhafi's macabre death appear very similar to the pictures of the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden and the snuffing out of rat hole incident that marked the catch of Sadam Hussein the revolutionary fighters of Libya show their (too) close link with North American and European powers which now gives nasty bodies like al Queda, al Shabaab et al a good handle to set up cells and win willing converts in Libya. Indeed, Gadhafi did not deserve the conspicuous valedictory luxury of such gruesome death which raised him up from the base level of a despicable Libyan villian of all time which he deserved to be to a matyr who fought the 'west' till he lost his life, fighting (at least for his folks in Sirte, Gani Walid and sundry regions including the black-skinned peoples of the northern and Horn of Africa, the Sahel). And that was what the dictator was angling right from the moment he discovered that he has made himself a global pariah with his antics after the 1986 Lockerbie bombing. Reporting his deathe the American liberal-leaning media, MSNBC.com noted some 'disturbing images of a blood-stained and shaken Moammar Gadhafi being jostled by angry fighters quickly circulated around the world after the Libyan dictator's dramatic death near his home town of Sirte.'Continuing in the report entitled, Who killed Gadhafi' Conflicting Stories Emerge.... as in other accounts in Rueters and AP the writers note: 'Conflicting stories emerge Gadhafi's death resonates with Lockerbie relatives Arabs see Gadhafi's death as message to rulers NBC correspondent answers questions about Gadhafi The exact circumstances of his demise are still unclear with conflicting accounts of his death circulating. But the footage, possibly of the last chaotic moments of Gadhafi's life, offered some clues into what happened.'Gadhafi was still alive when he was captured near Sirte. In the video, filmed by a bystander in the crowd and later aired on television around the world, Gadhafi is shown being dragged off a vehicle's bonnet and pulled to the ground by his hair. '"Keep him alive, keep him alive!" someone shouts. Gunshots then ring out. The camera veers off. "They captured him alive and while he was being taken away, they beat him and then they killed him," one senior source in Libya's ruling National Transitional Council told Reuters. "He might have been resisting." 'In what appeared to contradict the events depicted in the video, the council said Gadhafi was killed when a gunfight broke out after his capture between his supporters and government fighters. He died from a bullet wound to the head. 'It said no order had been given to kill him. "'Gadhafi was taken out of a sewage pipe ... he didn't show any resistance. When we started moving him he was hit by a bullet in his right arm and when they put him in a truck he did not have any other injuries,''' Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril told a news conference, reading from a forensic report. "'When the car was moving it was caught in crossfire between the revolutionaries and Gadhafi forces in which he was hit by a bullet in the head,''' Jibril said reading from the report.'The development taints the hands of Mr Jibril, a hitherto clean diplomat and astute technocrat with blood and makes him double speak. But more than every other thing, it sets the country he now heads, the once whole and prospering Libya apart in ethnic enclaves of vexxed tribal activists. Note Gadhafi wanted it so. He forecast it when the uprising was emerging and he, as well as his first son warned, that it beckons a long civil war. Even as the ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) now wants to soothe frayed nerves by the so called, 'giving Gadhafi a befitting funeral' they have created a serious issue by making him win sympathy. But beyond the messed-up killing, ponder how astute, articulate and politically savy Gadhafi got himself holed up in the messy rot of ghastly uprising. Greed and over confidence, possibly. After leading his army to shoo away the monarchy and the Italians in 1969 as a 27-year-old army colonel, he settled to run Libya into a bouyant oil-rich economy which actually had more money than it needed, paid over 70 per cent of its people bumper welfare stippened that was enough to make them not care to work. He lured foriegners, mostly black Arabians and Sub-Saharan Africans to the country as poorly paid expatriate workers who he used for his radical programme of infrastructural construction and strenghtening his army. Lets not bore you with the long history which is already in public view everywhere now.But as he saw himself become a local champion the euphoria of his stardom lured him to become a nasty neighbour to other African nations. He offerred his land as refuge for all manner of rebel leaders who surjourned in Libya to train forces they used to terrorise such countries as Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leon, Congo among others. Even in Nigeria, some millitants and pirates had training in Libya. His, reportedly, became a Mecca of sort for terrorism groups. While at home he muzzles everyone to fall under his canopy of get eliminated. And he ruled like this for over four decades. It was so nauseating that as at the time of his ouster from power, only his biological children and very few clan of cronies were the fellows near to succeed him should he decide to leave. He was so obsessed with the dope of his power and might that in 2009 when he celebrated the 40th anniversary of his 'revolution' he dazzled the world with his Libya's millitary might. But the man forgot that even if you give the human gold and money, and feed him with choice meal, with meat and fish without giving him a voice or showing him chances he will rise against you some day. And that is the message in Gadhafi's goof. By development indices, he achieved more for hitherto squalid Libya than Hosni Mubbarak did for thitherto rich Egypt. But both were flushed away by street revolts because people did not see them opening up chances for other people to play. One hopes this serves enough lesson for those who parade themselves as godfathers of Nigeria and, indeed, other nations. As well as those in the populace who urge them on in the damning delusion that they are infalible. The Gadhafi so wickedly killed the other day was finished by the populace who created his monster.
