Buharis anti-corruption stance, a mirage -Daiyabu

Published by Tribune on Mon, 21 Mar 2011

THE national president of Movement for Justice in Nigeria, Mallam Abdulkarim Daiyabu, has questioned the anti-corruption stance of the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari.Daiyabu, a northern politician, in an interview published in the current edition of The News, said Buharis claim of being incorruptible was doubtful, when placed side by side with his immediate associates and association with some persons of questionable integrity. He said it was surprising that Buhari had made some people, who he jailed for enriching themselves while he was head of state, the henchmen of his political activities.According to Daiyabu,Buhari might not be a bad person as a human being, but those who were jailed by his regime for looting the treasury had now taken control of him, to the extent that they were the ones who dictated the course of his actions. He asked the former head of state to forgo his ambition and back a different candidate if his commitment to Nigeria was to be believed.Actually, there is nothing wrong with General Muhammadu Buhari, but there is everything wrong with his surroundings. It is very unfortunate that Buhari is surrounded by only unscrupulous peoplesome of them are the people he detained in Kirikiri when he was the military head of statewho they have looted their states treasury, he said.Daiyabu further asked Buhari drop his ambition in favour of the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, adding that while Ribadu was equally surrounded by questionable characters, that of Buhari was unpardonable. On zoning, the politician said the issue was an internal affair of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), adding that anyone who disagreed with the party should have opted for another party.
