Published by Guardian on Sun, 23 Oct 2011

BEGINNING from the first quarter of next year, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) will begin mass closing down of all stations without operating licence in Oyo and Osun states. Its Operations Controller for the zone, Mrs. Gladys Odunuga, while reading the riot act in a meeting with major oil marketers yesterday said some of the operators have not renewed their licences in the last five years. She warned that all Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) affiliates operating without logo would be closed down beginning from March, 2012.'Beginning from next year, operators without valid receipt would be sanctioned, as such stations would be shut down.'Odunuga also lamented increased cases of under dispensing among some major marketers describing the act as shameful.Warning against the act, the DPR boss said the agency would not spare any operator henceforth caught in the unwholesome practice. She expressed concern over reported cases of tank leakages and stressed the need to take the leak detection test more seriously. In his remarks, the NNPC Depot Manager for the zone, Mr. Garba, restated the need for the operators to renew their licence as required by law warning that the corporation would only relate with those who have complied with this directivein the forthcoming year.On indiscriminate citing of filling stations, an official of the Ministry of Urban and Regional Planning, who represented the Commissioner, Kafayat Adeojo, said all unapproved stations have been served necessary notice and the state government would take it up in due course.
