Sanusi To Promote Access To Banking Halls For The Disabled

Govt Pledges Commitment To Private Sector GrowthTHE Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has pledged to promote the campaign for improved access to banking halls and services to Nigerians living with disabilities.Sanusi who made the pledge on Friday in Lagos at a dialogue on accessible banking halls and services for persons with disabilities, organised by the Centre for Citizens with Disability (CCD) at the Chevron Recreation Centre, Gbagada, said banks should develop a policy on disability that would enable challenged persons to have easier access to banking halls.Speaking through a deputy director of the apex bank, Mr. Ifeanyi Nwoha, Sanusi said he would encourage banks in Nigeria to liaise with the CCD to produce Voluntary Industry Standard (VIS) as is done in other jurisdictions.'Banks in some countries of the world have improved access for persons with disabilities to banking services through such mechanisms as Audio-enabled ATM's (for customers with hearing challenges), colour contrast and identification ATM's (for visually impaired customers,' he said.Meanwhile, the federal government has expressed commitment to partnering with the private sector in to ensure sustained growth of industries and make them globally competitive.The Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Isah Bello Sali said this inan address at the opening ceremony of the National Annual Conference of Hospital, Industrial and Institutional Caterers heldyesterday in Kaduna.He said: 'Government will continue to partner with the private sector to ensure that our institutions and industries, including the hotels, catering/hospitality, travel and tourism industries, do not only strive but also exceed anticipated ceilings of global expectations.
