Oluyole Zone 5 demands govt attention

Published by Tribune on Mon, 21 Mar 2011

Mr M.O. Akinlade, the spokesman of the Oluyole Extension, Zone 5 Residents Association, has tasked the Chief Christopher Alao-Akala-led administration to help persuade the authority in charge of City and Rural Areas Development in the state to pay a fact finding visit to communities in order to see the level of environmental degradation in the community. He also said that the residents of the community had tried their best to call the attention of the authority of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area to the increasing rate of damage to the road. With grief in our hearts, the residents of the area had written many letters to the authority of the  local government on the need to embark on road rehabilitation in the area. We have even gone there ourselves to highlight the problems of the community, but it has been promises upon promises for many years. However, we decided to cry out to get the attention of the state government so as to find lasting solutions to our problems, he stated. in the community,On what other things that are lacking in the community apart from good road, Akinlade said the residents of Oluyole Extension, Zone 5, were also desirous of other social amenities like potable water and stable electricity. In his words, we dont have stable electricity. Although the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) is to be blamed for this, we want the state government to  step into this issue. The population of people living at  Oluyole Extension Zone 5 is more than 3,000, but there is no motorable road, no water and electricity let alone health facilities. He also lamented that since the  inception of the zone.  no road out of the six roads in the area, has ever been tarred. All the roads have now been eroded away to the extent that the roads are impassable. In fact, all the various representations made to the Ibadan Local Governments Properties Company have yielded no fruitful result, Akinlade further stated.Speaking further, the spokesman of the community said, because of incessant power failure, the residents paid a sum of  N360,000 to benefit from the rural electrification project of the Oyo  State government but nothing came out it.We had paid several visits to the appropriate authority, but we were  told that only the state governors approval and directive could make it possible to have our transformer. We, however, begged the state government to make it possible because we dont know our offence and why we have been treated like this,  he emphasised. It is also unbelievable that those who are living in villages in Ibadan are even better off than those of us living in the zone in terms of social welfare services. Must we continue to suffer in silence in a developed state like Oyo We therefore beg the state governor for help, he pleaded.
