RAMOTAS ROMANTIC ADVENTURE

Published by Tribune on Mon, 21 Mar 2011

SHE should be more famous than Zsa Zsa Gabor, but she is a virtual unknown even in the corner of Abeokuta where she lives. Gabor is 93-year-old and has been married nine times and Ramota is only 58 but has just divorced her 11th husband. She should be in the Guinness World Records. Nigeria should insist on it. The country is so hungry for notice that it celebrates meaningless, even mocking, awards like the Big Brother Africa prize.BUT nobody should make Ramota an object of vulgar jest. She was not really unhappy in love until she married her 11th husband. The proof of her constancy is that she remained with him for 20 years, marrying him when she was only 38 years old.RAMOTA longed for a child of her own to hold and sought the arms of different men. She did this with honour, properly divorcing one husband before marrying another. And when no child came to cheer her up she moved on, a rolling stone that gathered matrimonial beds.HER 11th husband treated her abominably, Ramota told a divorce court. She said her husband wilfully neglected his conjugal duties. Ramota believed she could still conceive at 58. Well, dont they say miracles happen all the time in Nigeria They can now even be ordered from home.IT is not only a woman scorned that is more furious than boilingly angry hell. A rejected man sometimes rages. Husband number 11 ungallantly told the court that Ramota wanted a divorce because there were other men in her life. But the man who claimed he was a crushed cuckold begged Ramota not to leave him!RAMOTA is now free from one mans tyranny and may she conceive.
