African, UK youths seek narratives to foster growth

TECHNOLOGY centre in Africa Co-creation Hub (CcHUB), in partnership with British Council and Beatfreeks Collective yesterday announced a programme to remove singular, outdated narratives between Africa and United Kingdom.The partnership will bring 40 digitally savvy young professionals together to generate and disseminate narratives to foster a stronger collaboration towards better Africa/UK understanding.Holding between February and April, 40 young people; 30 Africans and 10 English men will participate in two residential labs in Kigali and Birmingham to develop ideas to contribute new narratives for Africa and U.K.The pilot is part of a five-year programme to strengthen Africa-UK relationship and birth a mutual cultural, social and economic benefit.British Councils Regional Director in sub-Saharan Africa Moses Anibaba, said: Africas youth population is the most significant factor for the future their relationship with U.K has huge ramifications for our shared prosperity and security.New Narratives aims to contribute to ensuring that this relationship is based on up-to-date, correct and complete narratives generated through new connections and strong engagement between young peopleCcHUBs Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Bosun Tiiani said the programme comes at a time young people are extremely intentional about the relationship between African countries and the world.Continuing, he noted with the opportunity modern technology platforms bring, building connections through a people-to-people approach provides not only a unique opportunity to create shared prosperity but also take collective ownership for our stories.
