A rare black coyote became good friends with a local great Pyrenees in Georgia, and their bond led to the animal's rescue

An especially rare, and friendly, black coyote had been mingling among dogs and humans in Georgia for months, CNN reported.Researchers at the Atlanta Coyote Project had set out on a quest to find and trap her.The coyote ended up striking up a close friendship with a local great Pyrenees, and their bond helped the researchers track the animal down.Carmine the coyote is now living in a wildlife sanctuary and researchers are trying to determine why she is so friendly.Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.Researchers in Georgia had been trying to track down a rare black coyote for months.Then the group got a call from a local woman who said the animal had become friends with her great Pyrenees, Ruth Bader, and was visiting her house every day."They would chase each other, play on the pool cover, gently wrestling or nap side by side," Ruth Bader's human, Vanessa Prior, told CNN.After posting a video of the dog and coyote playing together on Facebook, a friend suggested Prior call a pet rescue center. The center told Prior about Atlanta Coyote Project's efforts to catch the friendly coyote, CNN reported.She and friends set up cameras in her yard and waited for the animal to return."Because of their friendship and because she kept on coming back to play, they were able to catch her," Prior told CNN. "They put some traps in the back of my yard and one night she finally got into it."Christopher Mowry, co-founder of the Atlanta Coyote Project, told CNN that the group started looking for the coyote after receiving reports that it had been spotted in the area playing with neighborhood dogs. While the animal wasn't at all aggressive, some people became nervous at how close it was willing to get to humans."It was very friendly," Mowry told CNN. "It was following people to try to play with their dogs while they were walking them."Atlanta Coyote Project is dedicated to learning more about the coyotes in the region. Rescuers took the animal, now named Carmine, to a sanctuary where it will live with another coyote, CNN said. They will try to determine why the coyote is so comfortable with humans and dogs.In a post before the capture, the group said they believed the melanistic coyote is a yearling who was in search of a mate and territory."It's not a good situation for a wild animal like a coyote to be interacting with people,'' Mowry told CNN.
