Adepoju sinks Heartland ' Our players have lost their market value -Adepoju

Published by Tribune on Mon, 24 Oct 2011

SHOOTING Stars Sports Club (3SC) yesterday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan brightened its hope of remaining in the Nigeria Premier League next season with a 1-0 victory over Heartland FC.Taofeek Adepoju, scored the lone goal barely two minutes into the game as he sent a low drive which caught goalkeeper Chinedu Udeh helpless.Speaking after the match, Coach of Heartland FC, Ramson Madu, told sports journalists that he paraded a relatively unknown team as many of his regular players were down with injuries."Really, every registered player can feature in any game but we would have used our first team for this match if not for injuries. The technical crew is impressed with the performance of our boys in this game because they put up their best," Madu, a former Rangers and Sharks defender said.Chief Coach of 3SC, Fatai Amoo, said he was satisfied with the scoreline."Winning this match was our target and we were able to achieve it. We want to pick at least a point out of our remaining two games and win the last home game and with that, we are okay in the league," said Amoo.Meanwhile,FORMER Super Eagles'midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, says the present crop of Nigeria national team players will be hard hit for missing next year's Nations Cup in Gabon and Equiatorial Guinea.Nigeria failed to win the 2012 Nations Cup slot after ending as inner-up to Guinea at the end of group Two qualifiers for the championship.'Most of our players are no longer in big clubs in Europe and the greatest opportunity to impress scouts coming for the championship has been lost by the failure to reach the Nations Cup' said the former Real Sociedad of Spain player. He said he was sure that the Eagles must be regretting for missing the chance as their market value will drop next season.'The Nations Cup is a big platform to market yourself and prove to be a truly big player capable of attracting big clubs. It's a pity our players have been rendered as unfortunate Guinea spectators.
