Prepare for more flood, Lagos residents told

THE Lagos State government, through the Ministry of Environment, in a statement, has urged residents of some riverside communities in the state to get ready for another round of flood due to an expected overflow of the Ogun River in neighbouring Ogun State.The communities specifically mentioned in the statement are Mile 12, Owode-Onirin, Isheri North, Agiliti and Majidun. The residents of the communities have, therefore, been urged to brace up as more rains and flooding are on the way.Also, according to information released in the statement, the Ogun River had risen four metres above its normal level, which was largely due to rains in the South-West region of the country; therefore, residents were advised to move out of the identified areas.'Residents of these communities are advised to be on alert, but they should not panic. They should be prepared to move if the need arises, as more rain is being expected,' the statement said, while adding that 'those who don't have a place to go are assured of a place at the State Resettlement Centre.'In the meantime, residents of Isheri North are still smarting from the latest incident of flooding recorded in the state due to the downpour recorded on Saturday and have, therefore, appealed to the state government to come to their aid.
