Robbers sack 2 villages in Zamfara

Suspected armedrobbers, numberingabout 100, stormed Saulawa and Madaka villages in Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State inflicting serious wounds on at least 40 people and sacking the entire villages.Investigation carried out by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that the two villages were attacked separately on Wednesday and Thursday last week.As of the time of filing this report, the villagers had packed their belongings and left the villages .The latest attack, according to findings, is not unconnected with the series of reprisal attack by the vigilante groups and armed bandits in which about 40 people were reported to have been killed.Narrating the recent attack by the robbers, an eyewitness in Saulawa village who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the robbers came to the village at night when everybody had gone to bed.He said they ran for safety when the robbers attacked some villagers and inflicted serious wounds on them.The source further said that, 'at the end of the attack, at least 15 persons were seriously wounded and we had to convey them to the general hospital at Dansadau where they are currently receiving treatment.'In a similar attack on Thursday, suspected armed bandits stormed Madaka village at the same hour Saulawa was attacked the previous day, and left about 25 people in serious pains following injuries they sustained as a result of the attack.Findings gathered that the incident was happening even when soldiers had been deployed to provide security in the area. The presence of soldiers, according to a source, has compounded the villagers' woes.He alleged that the soldiers have refused to stay in the bush but rather mount roadblocks along Gusau-Dansadau highway leaving the hoodlums to operate.When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Amiru, confirmed the recent onslaught.While dicclosing that policemen in mufti had been dispatched to the area to gather first hand information, he appealed to the general public to help the police by informing them whenever they sighted strangers in their midst.
