Surulere residents urge Lagos govt to construct drainages

Residents ofSimisola Street,Surulere, Lagos, recently urged the Lagos State Government to rehabilitate the deplorable drainage system in the area.Mr Bade Mosi, Chairman, Simisola Residents Association, told newsmen that the drainage system in the street had collapsed, resulting in frequent flooding of the area."We have notified the Surulere Local Government and have also written to the State Government about the situation but to our surprise, nothing has been done."The government should open up the drainage on Simisola Street, Ajao Road and other streets in the area and link them with the Akerele canal," he said.He said that the incessant flooding of the area affected two schools, causing the pupils to wade through the floods whenever it rained.Dr Ntia Nsikak, a resident, also described the condition as deplorable and messy."The drainage situation is so bad that it had grounded one of my cars.'Mrs Iyabo Adebisi, a hairdresser, said that the condition of the street had affected her business as customers patronage had reduced because of the water on the street."We urge the government to please come to our aid and repair the drainage," she said.Commercial motorcyclists have turned the flooded areas into washing bays due to the pool of water on the streets.
