Unilorin 89.3FM hits airwaves

THE commissioning of UNILORIN 89.3FM, the official radio station of the University of Ilorin at the weekend as part of the 27th convocation ceremonies of the University was greeted with much commendation from the educational community. While commissioning the radio, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Visitor to the University, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan described the project as a manifestation of transforming ideas into development. 'The University and other similar agencies are utilising their ideas for developmental purposes.'President Jonathan who was represented by the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqqayat Ahmed Rufai stressed the role of radio in promoting qualitative learning in the country through educational broadcasting.'Radio is basically the medium that reaches the generality of the people. It is something that reaches the lowest of the low and it is being utilised for knowledge and it is used in nomadic education'.The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Is'haq O. Oloyede who later revealed that the digital, ultra-modern Radio Station of international standard was executed by Sound Broadcast Communications (SBC), commended the contractor for a job well done.The contractor, Mr. Friday Aizeboje (CEO of SBC) who reiterated his company's commitment to digital broadcasting later took the guests including the minister, VC, principal officers of the university and others on a tour of the studios which include the On-Air Studio, Voice-Booth, the production studio, the newsroom, and transmitter/technical room.Present at the commissioning were His Royal Highness, Benjamin IkenChukwu, Keagborrekuzi 1, The Dein of Agbor and the Chancellor, University of Ilorin; former Director General, Voice of Nigeria, Aremo Taiwo Allimi; Kwara State Commissioner for Information, Prince Olatunji Moronfoye and others.
