SIASIA: NIGERIAN COACHES ARE JEALOUS

Published by Nigerian Compass on Mon, 24 Oct 2011

THE Super Eagles chief coach, Samson Siasia, has stated that the call for his sack by some Nigerian coaches is nothing but sheer jealousy. He stated that, the coaches who are supposed to be proud that a fellow Nigerian is in-charge of the country's national team are busy running from pillar to post to make sure that the football federation terminates his job."These coaches are just jealous that I am being paid N5million monthly salary and have not been happy that the NFF has been giving me total support to succeed."It is a shame that these coaches have not come out as a group to defend me, instead they have been granting interviews that I should be sacked and not given a second chance."The truth is that, there is no person who does not make mistake, and if such mistake is made, it is only logical to make amends for a better future."If because I made a mistake not getting a Nations Cup ticket for Nigeria, then I should be sacked after just 11 months in-charge, it is not proper as the team is just trying to find its feet and it is clear to everybody that, the Eagles are beginning to get a character. He stressed that, regardless of the fact that an agreement was reached on taking the Eagles to the semifinals of the 2012 Nations Cup, thereis the need to give him and his technical crew members enough time to gel and become a formidable squad and we are gradually getting there.Siasia called on the NFF to give him another chance and they will not regret doing so."At least, I played under Dutchman Clemens Westerhof when the Eagles failed to qualify for the 1990 World Cup in Italy and the coach was allowed to continue and in another three years, the Eagles had become so formidable squad that top teams across the world dreaded so much."The coach said at the weekend that, sacking him will not solve the problem of failing to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup, but allowing him to continue doing his job will surely take the country somewhere good in international football. He stressed that countries across the world which have performed excellently in international football did not sack their coaches after just 11 months. Long term planning is the best.
