Fallout of Nations Cup failure: Yobo predicts bleak January for Eagles

Published by Tribune on Tue, 25 Oct 2011

NIGERIA'S captain, Yobo Joseph, says the Super Eagles will lick their wounds when the Nations Cup starts in January in Gabon- Equiatorial Guinea. The Eagles failed to win a 2012 Nations Cup ticket, losing the sole Group Two slot to the Syli Nationale of Guinea which topped with 14 points as against Nigeria's 11 and Yobo predicts a bleak January for his international team mates.'I only miss Nigeria's games through injuries', he told Super Sports Naija Made. 'In January, a lot of us (Super Eagles) will be distracted by the Nations Cup because that is where we are supposed to be'.The Fenerbache of Turkey defender recalls that the few times he missed out of international duties, he found it difficult to cope with the situation.'Being around your club when your mates are on international duties is not always good for a professional. You always have divided attention and that is why it is always special to play for your country.'Yobo thanked Nigerians for alerting him on the number of caps he has had for Nigeria saying what was always on his mind is to give his best in the country's colours.'When I read that I have 86 caps for Nigeria, I felt great and wish to do more for the country. It is a shame we won't be at the Nations Cup but life has to continue', he said.
