11 die in Benin-Ore auto accident

Eleven personsdied on Monday in an accident involving a luxury bus and an 18-seater commercial bus at Ore on the Benin-Ore highway.The recklessness of the luxury bus driver, alleged to be driving against traffic on a portion of the road, reportedly caused the accident, which occurred at about 10.00a.m.Eyewitnesses said the driver, who was in a bus marked XU 824 BDG, belonging to The Young Shall Grow Transport Ltd, ran into the Hiace bus belonging to Eddyson Transport, with registration number XZ 176 JJJ, resulting in the instant death of 11 passengers.The 18-seater bus was said to be coming from one of the states in the South-East and was in the course of overtaking other vehicles when the accident happened, while the luxury bus, according to a passenger, Felix Nwado, took off from Maza-Maza, Lagos State, and was heading for Onitsha in Anambra State.Nwado laid the blame for the accident on the luxury bus driver.Officials of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) were seen making efforts to remove the trapped remains of victims from the wreckage of the bus.However, a senior official of the FRSC said, 'we can't tell you anything now, can't you see what we are doing''The official, who appeared to be in-charge, was seen instructing others through sign language to keep sealed lips.
