Ascon Oil U-17 football tourney kicks off

MORE than 1,000 youth footballers from the 25 council areas of Delta State will converge at Ughelli, Ogwashi Uku and Oleh as the second edition of ASCON Oil U-17 Championship kicks off this week.The event which is packaged by Dream Team Football Academy, Asaba, in honour of late Engr. George Enenmoh, Founder/ Chief Executive Officer (CEO0 of ASCON Oil Ltd., was instituted in 2010 as part of activities to keep alive the dreams of the late business mogul, whose life was tragically cut short in the fatal Bellview Airline crash of October 22nd, 2005, at Lisa Village, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.The screening exercise which was a prelude to the tournament, saw more than 10,000 youngsters file out armed with their original birth certificates, which acted as the only prerequisite for participation. Prizes at stake in this year's championship include star prize of N500,000 for the over-all winners, N250,000 for the first runners-up, N150,000 for the second runners-up and N100,000 naira for the third runners-up.Other attractive prizes for the most valuable player (MVP), best coach, best keeper, best referee, best-behaved team (fair play award), best journalist etc. It will be recalled that at the memorial lecture of this year's event, former Secretary General of Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Mr. Fanny Amun, leda delegation of who is who in Nigeria football to occasion, which took place on October 10 at Asaba, Delta State.
