Zamfara CAN leader alleges destruction of his property

Published by Guardian on Tue, 25 Oct 2011

CHAIRMAN of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaura Namoda Local Council chapter in Zamfara State, Pastor Arolowo Jimo Segun, has alleged destruction and burning of his properties and shop by some unidentified hoodlums in the area. This was contained in a seven-page petition addressed to some media organisations in Gusau, the state capital by the cleric, and was copied to the Director of the State Security Services (SSS), commissioner of police, among others.Segun had recently escaped lynching by hoodlums during ritual activities in the local government, which made him to relocate to Gusau with his family members after getting security protection. The cleric named two indigenes of Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Ibrahim Mukhtar and Aliyu Isah who are workers in the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda as the prime suspects, urging security agents to intervene in the matter.Segun said that Mukhtar was his former colleague in Kaura Polytechnic, and a son to the landlord of Coca Cola outlet he occupied since 1994 and maintained same position even after his father's death. He said just two days after the attack, the suspect pasted a quit notice, asking him to pack out of the outlet even though his tenancy will not expire until December this year.'I asked him why he did so, since our rent had not expired, he attached his reason to the riot that happened on September 7th 2011. I also asked him to send a copy of the said quit notice to me through my email box since I was in exile somewhere in Gusau, but he refused and only asked me to get it from one of the law enforcement agencies', Segun said.He added that up till now, he does not know the reason for the attack on him and his family. He fingered Alhaji Ibrahim Mukhtar as mastermind of the riot.
