Aboderin faults national team selection

Chairman Dolphins Basketball Foundation, Wole Aboderin, has faulted the current selection process for national teams, saying there should be more openness in the process.He told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that questionable selection process had been a major problem dogging the development of basketball in the country.He noted that selections were always in favour of the foreign-based players to the detriment of their home-based counterparts.Aboderin said, "The national team selection has always been very secretive and this is because they fear criticism."Recently the president (Nigeria Basketball Federation) came out to declare surprisingly that he had just discovered that there were rackets going on in terms of players and agents and how the coaches choose them."I still feel that they have always been afraid of their selection because people will come out and criticise it. They dont want to play against any of the home team because if they lose, people will say, so what are you doing with these players."And in the age group competitions, we know of people, who are 28, 29, 30 years old playing under 19 competitions."Aboderin noted that this was a major problem that the federation would need to solve in order to develop the sport.
