Coalition to partner NDE, others on job creation

Published by Guardian on Wed, 26 Oct 2011

A COALITION of home and foreign-based Nigerian professionals on the platform of International League of Friends (ILOF) has, in furtherance of its social service objectives, unveiled plans to partner governments at all levels, National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) on job creation project in the country. The President of ILOF, Roland Okolo, who disclosed this at the 2011 yearly dinner of the organisation in Lagos, said the project was aimed at addressing unemployment among the youth.According to Okolo, 'Jobs For All in Nigeria' project was selected by the group as a priority project because 'virtually all the social vices in Nigeria today, namely robbery, prostitution, militancy, kidnapping and terrorism appear to have direct links to current unemployment situation in Nigeria.'Though he said the terms of the partnership were being discussed, the group decided to kick-off the project in Lagos State, adding that the decision was in recognition of high priority position the state has accorded the efforts at combating unemployment.'We are happy to note that Lagos State has among other initiatives, established in the local government areas job registration centres, skill acquisition training for the unskilled and re-orientation programme for graduate applicants. ILOF shares these noble ideals and is therefore fully behind the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, in his quest to alleviate poverty by providing jobs for all Lagosians,' Okolo stated. The special guest at the dinner, Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Wale Ahmed and the guest speaker, Mrs. Rita Dimka of NAPEP commended the group for embarking on the jobs creation project.
