Community to honour OBJ, Ajibola, Oba Dosunmu, others

FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo, former World Court Judge, Prince Bola Ajibola, the Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu and Alhaji Ola Yusuf, will be honoured at this year's 2011 Akinale Day celebration slated for Saturday, 29th October.Akinale, an Owu satellite town, is in south of Abeokuta in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.According to a statement signed by the Toluwalade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, the award was given to them based on their individual roles in eradicating poverty and raising the standards of living in the rural populace of Owu Kingdom and beyond.The theme of this year's celebration is 'Honour the heroes past, motivate the present and build capacity for succession.'Oba Ogunleye added that past heroes of the land who fought for the survival of Abeokuta as a federated nation in pre-Nigeria would also be given post-humous award.According to him, 'Some distinguished Owu indigenes, dead and living, will be honoured in recognition of their exploits for peace, unity and socio-economic development of Nigeria, Ogun State and Ewekoro Local Government in particular.'Prominent among the awardees are past heroes of the war of unity and survival of Abeokuta as federated nation in Pre-Nigeria. They are Akindele Gbalefa, Akanni Lapeleke, Awaye Sonlu and Songojinmi Gudugba, all who were notable members of the Owu militia in the Egba allied forces that repelled the onslaught of series of enemies and interlopes against Abeokuta Federation in the 19th century.'The traditional ruler also said that WAPCO Plc and Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC) will receive corporate organisation awards respectively.
