Corps member donates sewing materials to prison inmates in Abeokuta

Miss Prisca Ani Williams, a youth corps member serving in Ogun State, has donated sewing items worth N200, 000 to inmates of Ibara Prison in Abeokuta as part of her contribution to her place of primary assignment.Ani-Williams, shortly after the presentation, called on the Federal Government to reform the nation's prisons, stressing that the reformation would go a long way in making the inmates useful to themselves and the nation at large.The donor said that the gesture was part of her contribution to the society that made her a graduate and promised to always put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the society of her host community.She said that a statement by the state's Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Gbenga Otenuga, motivated her to embark on the project.She said, ``With my innate calling, backed with the commissioner's pledge, I took a familiarisation tour round my new community.``While doing that, it struck me that some inmates at the Ibara Prison needed to be empowered, even though some of them had ran foul of the law.``We must show care and love to these people, all hands must also be on deck to make sure that they come out of the prison to become agent of positive change.'She promised not to relent on her efforts in putting smiles on faces of the people.Ani-Williams, a graduate of Mass Communication, gave out sewing and over locking machines, machine stands, pressing boards, pressing irons, scissors, shuttles among others.The Commissioner, Otenuga, said that the state government was happy with the gesture of Ani-williams and promised that it would not go unrecognized.He advised the inmates to take full advantage of the opportunity of the project and also charged other corps members and individuals to take a cue from Ani-Williams' initiatives.``The inmates that will benefit from Prisca's project would be so happy at the life- enriching initiatives, just as I am convinced that the leadership of both the prison and the NYSC are thrilled with the project.``To you Prisca, I assure you that the state is proud of you and we commend and salute your efforts.``To you all out there, let's follow this good example of a youth from another part of the country serving in our state and contribute our quota to the nation building, `` Otenuga said.The state coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Adeniran Folayanka, described the project as ``simply wonderful.``
