6,000 workers jostle for 500 houses in Zamfara

ABOUT 6,000 civil servants have applied to occupy the 500 housing units being constructed by the Zamfara State government for its workers, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman, has disclosed.Suleiman disclosed this in Gusau while conducting round officers from the National Defence College who were on a strategy tour of the state. He, however, failed to provide the project cost or the cost of a housing unit.He also said that the state government had provided the necessary project site and infrastructure and that it would be executed in partnership with an Abuja-based estate developer, Sahara Homes Ltd.The permanent secretary said that the statement government had reviewed Sahara Home Ltd's designs to suit the socio-cultural environment and taste of would-be beneficiaries.He further told the officers that the state government had evolved a strategy for the inclusion of the state civil servants as contributors to the federal mortgage scheme, to enable them acquire their own homes with ease.Also speaking, the representative of Sahara Homes Ltd, Mr Ismail Shuaib, informed the visitors that 90 houses had reached advanced stage of completion.Shuaib said that the estate, when completed, would be equipped with recreational facilities, corner shops, clinics and a seven-kilometer road.Responding, the leader of the team, Air Commodore Bashir Saidu, commended the state government for its performance in the last three months.Saidu said that the tour had taken the team to six emirate councils of the state as well as government institutions during which members inspected facilities.
