Kwankwaso moves to decongest Kano, kicks off new city project

THE Kano State governor, Dr Musa Kwankwaso, has flagged off the development of an ultra- modern site and services housing estate at Umarawa, Tunfafi and Gurjiya, comprising of 6,600 plots, named Kwankwasiyya City, as part of measures to decongest Kano City.Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kwankwaso, said, the initiative was geared towards providing shelter to the people, saying in view of the large size of Kano State, there was the need to develop more cities to Alternative meet the increasing demand for shelter.According to him, the city, the first of its kind in the state, would be equipped with modern facilities, including a five- star hotel, modern shopping mall, park and garden, play ground, police station, schools, fire service, resource centre, such as library, amusement park, neighbourhood market, Islamiyya school, central mosque, filling station among others.The project, according to Dr Kwankwaso, will be completed within 16 months, as funds for the construction of the housing estate had since been provided, while the contractors had been mobilised to site.Kwankwaso disclosed that among the objectives of his administration was to eliminate the sufferings of Kano people in the area of accommodation and unemployment.Besides, he disclosed that additional 60 vehicles would soon be procured and distributed to the Civil Defence Corps and other security personnel to facilitate their operations.As part of measures to decongest the city, the governor disclosed that the government was planning to relocate all the major motor parks in the capital city to suitable locations at the outskirts of the city, informing that the government was also planning to build a modern market at Yan Lemo, just as he disclosed that all roads leading to the city would be dualised.The representative of the Minister of Land, Abdul Yekini Ailara, that of the CBN governor, Alhaji Haruna Rasheed, commended Governor Kwankwaso for initiating the project, which they described as worthy of emulation, pointing out that the scheme would at the long run, help the people to secure land to build their own houses.Wamban Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, who represented the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, also lauded the governor's efforts at initiating the project, assuring that the Emirate Council would support and cooperate with the governor to accomplish his goals.
