Improving lives, economy through brand promotions

Published by Nigerian Compass on Thu, 27 Oct 2011

When Koko Akaniyeni, a student from Enugu State was presented with the keys of his new Toyota Corolla car 2011 model as one of the winners in the on-going Star Mega Promotion,he could barely contain his joy during the presentation at Nigerian Breweries, Headquarters, Iganmu, Lagos state. Akaniyeni who thought the promotion was not real was shocked when he got the keys and the papers to the car, and the whole scenario became clear to him that he is a proud owner of a car. His words: 'When I got the 'S', which is the most difficult aspect to get, because the promotion required one to spell S.T.A.R., I hid the letter 'S' under my shoes when I was coming. In fact I did not allow anyone to touch me, even to the extent that I refused to stay in the hotel that I was asked to stay, because I didn't want to hear story at the end of the day. It is now that I believe that the whole thing is for real,' he said, adding that he was suppose to celebrate his birthday on October 11, but deferred it to come to Lagos for the presentation. 'I can now celebrate my birthday. Yesterday (October 11) was my birthday, but I had to postpone it when they called me that I should come to Lagos to pick my car. Now my celebration is complete now that I have a car. I am so excited being the winner of a Toyota Corolla car.' He commended Nigerian Breweries Plc for the promotion which tend to better the lives of consumers. According to him: 'They have really done a great job. I never had it in mind that I will own a car at this age, but thanks to Star for making it possible.' Akaniyeni was not the only winner of the Toyota Corolla car that emerged that night. Others were a security man from Old Army Barrack in Suleja, Abuja, Mr. Nichodemus Andrew and a hotelier from Kuru, Abuja, Mr. Yeye Joseph. Andrew who is from Kaduna State described the experience of winning the car as a miracle. 'I could not still believe it that I am a winner of a brand new car. It is really a miracle. I saw the whole thing in my dream, and true to it, it came to past. I am very grateful to God for making it possible. The whole thing just came from nowhere, not even in my wildest dreams did I expect that I would be a winner,' he said. Andrew also refused to stay in the hotel that was booked for him, thinking that he will be duped in the process. 'I refused to stay in the hotel because I wanted to be secured and be protected,' he said, adding that the car will certainly go a long way to ease his family problems. 'I am really grateful to Star for this unexpected car. Now my family will be very happy.' For Joseph, the last of the trio, the occasion was so overwhelming that the Hotelier from Kuru, Abuja, could hardly contain himself. 'I am so excited. I don't know what to say. I don't have a car of my own, but now, I am a proud owner of a brand new Toyota Corolla car,' he stated. Joseph who works with Protea Hotel, Asokoro, Abuja was also grateful to Star, which he said fulfilled his dream beyond his expectation. 'I want to say thank you to Star. It is now that I discover that the promotion is very real.' He said winning the car is not by his power, it is from God, and I will forever grateful to Him,' he said. Joseph reiterated that the first Star beer he took that day after he closed from work was the letter 'S'. 'Immediately I saw it, I called someone that I have won a car, the person was telling me how did I know that I have won a car. I showed the cork of the Star beer to him which has the 'S', I held it to myself, I did not release it to anyone, I only showed them. Thereafter, I invited my friends to come and celebrate with me. During the celebration, I was able to spell S.T.A.R..' He hinted that it is not because of the promotion that he started drinking the product. 'I started drinking it since 1994, and this promotion confirmed that the whole promotion that they have been doing is real. Before now, I thought it was not real. The car key is with me and the papers. 'I want to thank the management of Nigerian Breweries, the Star promotion is actually helping people, we all appreciate it, especially we the poor one's for having this opportunity,' he said happily, stressing that the car will have great impact in his life. 'It will help me in so many ways, before now, my education has stopped because I lost my parents, nobody is there to assist me, again since I got married, things have not been easy, I believe from now, things are going to be alright.' The trio are the first set of winners that will drive home 24 brand new cars during the promotion. While presenting the Toyota Corolla car to Akaniyeni, former President, Performing Musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Chief Tony Okoroji, was full of praises for the brand, adding that 'Star has been number one in supporting entertainment in Nigeria, from Star Quest, Star Trek, Star Mega Jam, Nigerian Music Awards. It is not new to me today that I am presenting this car keys to this winners, keep up the good work. From now on, they will be driving like a star.' Earlier, the Corporate Affairs Adviser of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mr. Yusuf Ageni, said the Star Mega Promotion is riding on the success of last year's consumer loyalty scheme. 'Last year Star enriched the lives of millions of consumers with the hugely successful Star Fortune Promotion. Consumers from all nooks and crannies smiled home with fantastic prizes, the grandest being the 2010 model of Toyota Corolla. Following from the success of the 2010 promotion and in response to the yearnings of our consumers, the Star brand will once again reward consumers this year through the Star Mega Promotion.' He added: 'This promotion has one main objective, to say thank you to our loyal consumers. The promotion will once again touch millions of lives all over Nigeria. The promotion will be 100 percent crown cork based. That means consumers buy and open a bottle of Star and while savouring the rich tastes look under the crown cork. What you see is what you get.' He explained that there are two categories of winning crown corks which are instant crown corks and the grand prize. 'Under the winning crown corks category, consumers have a chance of winning prizes such as caps, T shirts, key holders, pens, umbrellas and free drinks. While 240 people will stand the chance of winning N20,000 cash, 400 people will smile home with N50,000 cash. In the grand prize category, lucky individuals will win 24 brand new 2011 Toyota Corolla cars. 'To win the grand prize, a consumer is expected to collect a combination of crown corks that spell S-T-A-R' Mr. Ageni noted.
