COVID-19: US based group provide palliative for vulnerable Nigerians

Daniel AdeleyeA sizeable number of Nigerian citizens have benefited from cash transfer and food items distributed by a US-based nonprofit organisation, Association of Globalmedical Organizations in Nigeria.Speaking with The Nation in Lagos, the group co-ordinating ambassador, comrade Kunle Bello, said over 100 recent beneficiaries of Globalmedical Organizations cash payments ranging from #2000, #5000, #10000 and #15000 each, either by physical receipt or payment into their bank accounts include the inhabitants of Ewu-Tuntun in Oshodi-Isolo, Alimosho, Surulere, Shomolu and Lagos Island all in Lagos State, as well as Ibadan in Oyo State and Osogbo in Osun State.Bello opined that there are many ways government at various levels could reach the downtrodden who are in the dire need at this hard time.He emphasised that LASTRRA as an initiative of Lagos state government, contains the data of majority of residents in the State, saying the voters registers of INEC and LASIEC, particularly the bank details of voters which they collected during the 2019 general Elections , could also serve as means to reach out to Nigerians.READ ALSO:Palliatives, charities and the faultlinesBello revealed that Globalmedical organization through its Food Bank Programme also distributed stimulus packages containing medium size Milo Tea, 1/2 dozen Evaporated Milk, packet of Sugar, Margarine Butter and Bread to over 250 residents as another means of giving back to the society and stemming the tide of Covid-19 scourge.He said the organization would re-assess the situation going forward and move from local government to another towards complementing the short fall in the just concluded food distribution, especially to the needies, the vulnerable and the unemployed.Commending the unrelenting efforts of Lagos State government under the leadership of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to fight against the upsurge of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the state, the community leader advocated for a viable data base in Lagos state to cater for the citizens.He tasked Nigerians on compliance of safety measures directive by the Nigerian government to stay safe and healthy.
