COVID-19: No Sallah homage, Fintiri tells well-wishers

Onimisi Alao, YolaGovernor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has told his well-wishers to suspend the homage they usually pay to him during Sallah celebrations.The governor indicated in a statement signed by his Chief of Staff, Prof Maxwell Gidado, that not receiving visitors during the Eid-Fitr celebrations scheduled for Sunday is a sacrifice he has chosen in view of prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.Fintiri issued the no-homage directive against the background of 27 COVID-19 cases in Adamawa State, out of which one person has died and 13 people treated and discharged.The governors Chief of Staff announced the suspension of Sallah homage in a statement addressed to top government officials, House of Assembly members, local council chairmen, heads of boards and commissions, and traditional rulers.READ ALSO:Im making future elite of disadvantaged children, Gov Fintiri declaresThe chief of staff said, I am directed to intimate you that this years Eid-el-fitr/Sallah homage on his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri would not hold as usual and hence is suspended.This is due to the dreaded COVID-19 scourge. The Governor wishes you all happy Eid-el-fitr celebration.Governor Ahmadu Fintiri who has imposed a lockdown on the state twice in effort to curtail the spread of COVID-19, has long allowed freer movement across the state.However, movement into the state remains banned and even around the state, emphasis on social distancing, wearing of facemask, and other safety rules remain in place, and dusk to dawn curfew is similarly being enforced.
