Bi-Courtney repairs failed portion on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Published by Tribune on Fri, 28 Oct 2011

TONNES of asphaltwere expended onThursday by the concessionaire of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Bi-Courtney Highway Services Limited (BCHSL), to fix a portion of the road at the Redemption Camp area, which collapsed barely three weeks after it was repaired by the Ogun State government. The state government had sparked controversy in July, when it entered the road to fix a 10-metre portion, a move that was described by the Federal Government as illegal. In a statement issued by its spokesman, Dipo Kehinde, on Thursday, the concessionaire called on stakeholders to shun the ongoing propaganda by some politicians, who were bent on stopping the progress of work on the highway.'Road users are aware that the Ogun State government entered the road in July and fixed about 10-metre stretch and not 500 metres as claimed, near the Redemption Camp, after impounding our asphalt plant, just as we were about to do another round of repairs on the road.'Barely three weeks after that illegal intervention, we noticed that the portion they fixed was falling apart, and all eyes could see it. So, we had to move in yesterday to repair the badly fixed portion, which one of the commissioners in the state is now celebrating as the 'smoothest on the entire Lagos-Ibadan expressway,' the statement read.It said those who plied the highway knew that BCHSL had kept on working on a daily basis, to keep the road in motorable condition.'We sympathise with politicians who are trying to fuel controversy on the road project as a diversionary tactics for not having much to show the electorate as achievement. And we urge members of the public to ignore them, because we are going to deliver the road, to the glory of God, before the projected date,' it added.
