Published by Tribune on Fri, 28 Oct 2011

People living at Lodge Street, a community in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State, which also links communities like Imalefalafia, Ososami, Agbeja and College Crescent, are not happy with the authorities of the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area. The residents of the community explained to Community News that the area had not witnessed any developmental projects or seen any infrastructural facility in many years apart from those provided during the era of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the then Premier of the defunct Western Region. They however, asked the authorities of the Ibadan South-West Local Council to come out and show them any recent development projects in the community.Residents of Lodge Street, also told Community News that the road network in the community was bad and filled with dangerous pot- holes.According to Mr Samson Akinade, the roads in the area have gone bad due to long years of neglect.'All the roads you see in this area were constructed durning Chief Obafemi Awolowo era. You can imagine! We have not felt the presence of the authorities of Ibadan South West Local Government Area in this community. Yet, we always vote for them. We only see them when it is time for election.'All our roads are now bad and as vehicle owners, the fear is always there to bring out your vehicle. You just imagine how our roads look like.' he told Community News.Other residents who spoke with Comunity News, however, begged Governor Abiola Ajimobi for dividends of democracy, reminding the governor of his promises when he visited the area to campign. The residents of the community also vowed to vote only for candidates that would listen to their plight and provide solutions to their problems in the coming local government elections.
