NSSF plans international tourneys for schools

THE Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) has confirmed that the top six teams in this year's Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship would represent the country in international competitions in Europe and Africa.According to the federation, winners of this year's tourney, Benue and Adamawa states, will hoist the county's flag at international tournaments in Canada and United Kingdom (UK) next year. An NSSF official said: 'As a national body, we are ready to take any team to international competition because we are affiliated to the International School Sports Federation, which organises various sporting competitions for schools all over the world.'We are planning that the top teams will travel to Canada and UK for competitions, while other teams will travel to the United Arab Emirates, South African and Kenya for championships.''Basketball being one of the popular sports in schools worldwide, there are regular tournaments being staged annually by ISF and we are hoping that these teams will avail themselves the opportunity to hoist the countries' flags in such international competitions. But their participation will be determined by the interest shown by their states' governments.'According to the official, participation in international competitions will not only help the schools, the students will as well gain a lasting experience.
