Technician feared killed by policemenLagos command honours 21 officersTHE House of Representatives has mandated its Joint Committee on Police Affairs, Justice and Human Rights to investigate the alleged killing of a 20-year old man, Victor Emmanuel by policemen in a community ofBayelsaState.The development came as an Ilorin-based 41-year old radio technician simply identified as Dokun was on Wednesday shot in a mysterious circumstances at the Eastern end gate of Kwara State Police Headquarters along Ahmadu Bello Way, Ilorin.The deceased, until his death was alleged to have collected N2,000 from a female police officer, Titi, as the cost of repairing her faulty television set brought to his workshop.But due to an alleged failure by the technician to deliver the television set at the appointed date, Titi who allegedly demanded for prompt refund of her money and immediate termination of the contract had to whisk away Dokun, accompained by two other policemen, identified as Jossy and Ige to the headquarters.But on the way to the headquarters Dokun was allegedly hit by stray bullet killing him on the spot.Father of the deceased, Mr. Olu Ayantoye is now crying for arrest and prosecution of the police officers he called the prime suspects in the brutal death.The Police Commissioner Peter Gana confirmed the incident, adding that police were investigating the matter.A member of the House of Representatives, Warman Ogoriba (Bayelsa), rising on a point of order on matters of urgent public importance, informed members that the alleged murder was committed near a police checkpoint where the Emmanuel was reportedly shot death in the presence of his mother.He lamented that the most pathetic angle to the incident was that the policemen took his remains to the station, fixed a pair of scissors in his hands and declared him a victim of suicide. 'You can imagine the trauma the mother is facing,' the lawmaker said.Meanwhile, the trial of a 52-year old police officer, Sgt. Alfred Kejawa accused of murder was yesterday stalled at the Lagos High Court following the prosecutor's absence in court.The police Sgt. was arraigned over a one count charge of murder. The charge states that the accused had on the 30th of October 2001 along Commercial road, Apapa roundabout in the Lagos State Judicial Division murdered one Mohammed Heshimu.The command yesterday warned landlords and house owners to scrutinise their tenants and prospective ones as the government will confiscate any house accommodating criminals.The command also warned that the government will not hesitate to prosecute any landlord found culpable in habouring criminals.The command Police boss, Mr. Yakubu Alkali gave the warning while rewarding galantry and courage displayed by policemen who smashed kidnappers den recently in Lagos, arrested kingpins and recovered high caliber arms.The 21 officers and men were rewarded with cash gifts, medals and Certificate of patriotism.
