Gateway completes second terrestrial network roll-out

Gateway Business, a major pan-African service provider, has announced that 14 more states in Nigeria will have access to quality wireless broadband services with the completion of phase 2 of the companys terrestrial network extension project.Gateway Business aimed to offer Nigerian businesses increased coverage and access to affordable managed broadband services, a statement from the firm on Friday indicated.The initiative also complements the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologys objective to increase the number of Internet users in Nigeria from 33.5 million to 70 million, by 2015.Phase 1 of the project was completed in November last year, with Gateway Business extending its Multiprotocol Label Switching network across 11 states in Nigeria, from Lagos and Abia to Rivers, Abuja Federal Capital Territory, Oyo, Kano, Enugu, Edo, Kaduna, Onshita, Anambra and Delta.Phase 2 will see even more businesses utilising reliable, cost-effective broadband capacity, including a wide-range of managed network and managed host services such as Cloud Computing.The second phase of the project has been rolled out in the following states;Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Ondo, Bayelsa, Plateau, Cross Rivers, Imo, Osun, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Borno and Bauchi.The network now also connects a number of remote locations that previously relied on satellite for capacity, the Managing Director, Gateway Business, Guy Clarke, said.He added, The entire network was built using multiple vendors and has redundancy ensuring consistent up-time. Our reliable services and wide product portfolio can now be further bolstered with stable infrastructure.Phase three of the project, which is expected to be completed in March 2012, would see the entirety of Nigerias 37 states being connected, resulting in widespread broadband corporate connectivity, the firm said.
